In his Takimag column, our favorite doctor assesses the untenable financial and potentially explosive political situation of most Western welfare states, with particular focus on France.

The underlying problem is that, in many Western countries, deep reform is necessary and impossible at the same time. It is necessary economically but impossible politically.
